PT3000 Protocol Translator
If you have interconnect problems your worries are over. The MSE-Tetragenics PT3000 Protocol Translator is built for cross-communications between programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), and system hosts. It's small, functional, and priced to meet your needs.
Translating Alien Protocols - What is the PT3000?
The PT3000 is a protocol translator that lets your system communicate with multiple IEDs through one communication channel. You free up communication channels and the PT3000 translates the different (alien) protocols for your system.
An industrial grade unit, the PT3000 receives information from the IEDs at your sites, translates it to a common protocol, and then transmits the data to a master. It translates a variety of protocols, and you can connect it to one or more masters. A single PT3000 can translate as many as 18 different protocols, and you can multidrop units to add more protocols.
Set up is easy. Configure the PT3000 in your office or in the field using a PC or laptop computer. Once you configure the software database, plug the PT3000 unit into the computer, download the database, connect your IEDs and/or Master to the PT3000, and you are ready to run.
How does it do that?
Multitasking is the key to how the PT3000 works its magic. One task runs for each port, polling and controlling IEDs in their own protocols. The information from those IEDs is placed into a real-time database for use by the tasks responding to the master. When a master polls the PT3000, the PT3000’s task accesses the database, formats the information for the correct protocol, and sends it to the master.
Straightforward Software Editor
The PT3000 comes with a menu-driven configuration editor that runs on any standard Windows computer. The PT3000 Editor will get you up and running within minutes. Pop-up menus and point-and-click simplicity make it a breeze to configure or reconfigure the PT3000, while password security prevents unauthorized changes.
Tough Hardware
The PT3000 unit is a two rack unit enclosure, built to withstand rugged environmental and electrical requirements. The front contains corresponding easy-to-read LEDs for each port (these show you what is happening at a glance). It also contains port 1, a 10-Base-T Port, and a modem port to connect a modem for dial up capabilities. The back of the unit contains ports 2-18.
Easy Configuration
The PT3000 is designed for easy configuration.
- configure each PT3000 to use 2, 6, 10, 14, or 18 serial ports (factory or user configured)
- configure each serial port in pairs to be RS-232 or RS-422/RS- 485 interfaces
- use standard baud rates between 300 and 115,200 for each port, with individually programmed parity, data bits and stop bits
- select both hardware or XON/XOF protocols and configure any of the ports for one or multiple IEDs (provided that the IEDs support multi drop party line communication)
Ethernet Interface
The PT3000 contains an Ethernet interface for both twisted pair 10-Base-T or an AUI connection for any other type of hardware connection. The Ethernet interface provides support for database downloads, FTP, TFTP, and a Telnet type interface that provides full Ethernet support for all terminal functions.
